Using NTPD with PTPD

We have a requirement at work to synchronise our servers to within a micro-second. To achieve this we used a combination of a CDMA modem (can use a GPS device), PTPD, and NTPD. We used the CDMA modem as a stratum 0 reference to NTPD. This means that NTPD would have control of adjusting the clock on the server. Ajax comes to the rescue

I help out with the kids school web site. They wished to update some of their content by themselves. This particular content comprised a PDF file and a link to it. Using the existing pages would mean they created a PDF file, find the location in the HTML where to add a new entry, and then add the HTML code to add the new PDF file to the content and then upload the new file and the new content. Chris Bonington

Last night I went to listen to a talk by the mountaineer Chris Bonington. Excellent, inspiring and brilliantly presented. If you ever want to ask anyone about risk management, he would be a good contender. I was impressed that he believed his worst mistake in climbing was when he was aged 70, dropped 50m when he was winter climbing in Scotland with his brother. I can imagine the kind of weather he experienced during that climb, but climbing at age 70! Australia Day

Today was spent celebrating Australia, and everything Australian. Snags, beer, sport and fun is the order of the day. What great fun!!! For those of you outside of Oz, it’s a bit like St. George’s day in England, and St. Patricks day for the Irish, although that seems to extend around the world.
